... and also ...Saturday, December 10, 2005 As a continuation of yesterday's thoughts, I think this theory of communication explains why people clique. Actually, it seems so sensical and accurate that to explain it may feel unnecessary. However...
If people are always in a state of communicating and are always sharing themselves in the hopes of positive reinforcement from others, their natural tendency will be one of cliquing and clanning with people who respond positively to the same types of ideas, jokes and thought processes as theirs'. Whether this be extreme groups like the KKK or religious fanatics, it explains also why groups become so strong! If I stand alone on an issue and have no positive support from others, I will most likely fold at some point. However, if I have a group of 300 people, locally and nationwide, that I know support and respond positively to the same thoughts as me, I can imagine that I or any person would feel a lot less threatened when someone doesn't respond positively to their ideas. Anyway, for fear of over-explaining, I am glad I've had a moment of clarity on these issues. Reason being is that I no longer see others' disagreement of me as a personal offense; rather, I can understand their disagreement as an act of self-preservation on their part. And I'm okay with that. |
