I've only recently understood that not only does Jesus forgive our sin, he also absorbs the shame and the guilt that goes along with the sin.

I think that's what's hardest for me to give up to Jesus, the shame and the guilt of the things I've done or haven't done. I carry that stuff around for long, long periods of time and never forgive myself, repeatedly punishing myself for the mistakes that Christ has already forgiven and forgotten.

And yes, in order for the shame and guilt to go away, I've got to give all of it up to Jesus, along with the admitted wrongs. (I am still learning.)

To quote Tori Amos: "I've got enough guilt to start my own religion." Ain't that the truth?
