I had my first class last night; it's queer how much I missed academia and how excited I was to be back. The professor seems cool with lots of life experience and wants to challenge our thinking instead of requiring excessive assignments. I think that's a refreshing and positive expectation for any social work student.
Even being back on campus is nice. Walking the sidewalks bursting with students, riding the crowded buses, jumping on the right elevator - it all seems like a dance. You have to have the timing and steps just right or you look like the odd person out who dams up the flow. It's no wonder the first semester was such an adjustment for me.
My largest challenge right now is adjusting to having my fiance' a mere four miles away. I am so glad and so grateful he's here yet I already find myself hiding from responsibility and running to his place instead of spending my time organizing or as my down-time. I'm sure once my routine establishes itself it will help; right now it's just days of nothing but free time...and cable. I suppose I should relax while I can, eh?
