A hope-filled future.

I witnessed a confirmation of young church members this morning and we read a compilation of their thoughts on the statement of faith. I thought it was beautiful, inspiring, hopeful, simple, encouraging and honest. I share it with you now:

We believe that God is nurturing and loving, holy and powerful. God blesses and guides us. God helps us so that we can make good decisions and so that we can get through life's challenges and struggles. God is active in our lives, even when we do not understand or recongnize the signs that God presents to us. God is hope in a world of darkness, someone that we can look to when our lives are dim. God gives us hope for a great future.

We believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, our Savior. He is a helper, teacher, and is holy and powerful. The Bible teaches us of his life - his great deeds and the amazing stories of his miracles. The teachings of Jesus define how we as Christians should live. The Bible also tells us of his death and resurrection - how Jesus died for our sins, sacrificing himself for us.

We believe that the church is not just a building, but is a gathering of people coming together to celebrate the goodness of God. The church is a tree that nurtures each of us to blossom in our faith. The church is a family who accepts us and gives us a place to come for comfort. The church reaches out and gives to those in need, and shows us how to make a difference in somebody else's life. Most importantly, the church helps us to grow closer to God.
