A Sunday thought.

First I'd like to say that I'm quite impressed by all my friends' daily blogs. I really enjoy reading the day-to-day activities of their lives and reading their blogs does leave me feeling more informed, more aware of what they're going through. It makes me wonder if perhaps I should approach my blog a little more light-hearted, sharing both my deep, brooding thoughts along with my life experiences - probably a good middle approach.

I'm sitting outside on our upstairs balcony writing this on my laptop; what an enjoyable experience! It's a great summer day, some heat and some humidity, and I'm watching the church-goers head back to their cars after their morning services while sipping coffee from my new percolator coffee pot - just like Mom makes! You'd think I'd be sick of the outdoors and natural air, seeing as my husband and I were without power for 48 hours and were "roughing it" in our apartment and yet summer is summer - you've got to take it in while you can! :)

The best part of having no power, once we realized we were in for a long haul and had to adjust (the power company initally told us 3-5 days without power) is quite similar to what my good friend said about camping - it slows things down. We went from mass emailing and movies on demand and microwaved meals to reading together on the balcony for hours, playing board games by candlelight and letting towels air-dry outside; it was almost like being on vacation! I admitted to my husband that I was almost a little sad when the power came back on a day before we expected - it appeared it could've stunted our lazy summer weekend. However, I think because it forced us to realize that life can be slow and enjoyable, we were able to experience something that we may have been missing; at least that's true for me!
