Stewarding.

Thursday, June 12, 2008
So I've volunteered to be a "steward" for the community flower garden on our street. Actually, I volunteered to plant flowers for one day and then ended up moving into the steward position of weeding, watering and general maintenance of the flower garden. The staff is thrilled! I'm usually rather excited and relishing the idea as well until I go out and start working on the garden....whew! Weeding is not only a lot of work but also a constant source of work; I'm always amazed at how quickly, deeply and densely the weeds grow back. I'm on week #2; how long ya' think I'll make it?!

I'd truly love to insert a meaningful Biblical analogy here and say that I've understood the many parables that relate to weeds, soil and planting so much more, however, I haven't yet been struck by a revelation. I imagine that if I'd reread the parables the next time I weed they'll be fresh in my mind and will strike me with new understanding. All I know is, when God banned Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, cursing them to toil the earth, he wasn't kiddin'!
